We've had a busy spring so far here at Circle Icon of William Paterson UniversityDe Witt & Associates!

In March we were a major sponsor of the William Paterson University AccessAbilities conference in Wayne, New Jersey. Seventeen De Witt employees participated in the conference, delivering hands-on presentations on Dragon Naturally Speaking, HomePage Reader, JAWS, Inspiration, Duxbury, Apple VoiceOver and Zoom, Math Tools for Students with Print Disabilities and Making Tests More Accessible.

We had a great time and got to work with teachers from New Jersey, New York & Pennsylvania!

One week later, six De Witt & Associates employees headed to CSUN in Los Angeles, California to learn about the latest developments in assistive technology. John De Witt at CSUN presenting eHarmony with JawsThis year's conference included several exciting new products and we look forward to providing them to our clients. De Witt staff held two presentations at the conference one on using All inPlay software to teach computer skills and the other on using eHarmony with JAWS.

In April, our Midland Park, NJ headquarters were visited by Clarence Whaley and Bill Herzler of GW Micro who demonstrated the Braille Sense, SmallTalk Ultra, and some of the many new features of Window-Eyes 5.5.

The Braille Sense is a modern note taker with a 32-character Braille display. Some of the Braille Sense' outstanding features are:
•  An LCD display enables an instructor to see what a student is Brailling,

•  A video port allows the contents of the LCD display to appear on a PC monitor,

•  Runs up to seven different applications simultaneously,

•  Stereo speakers,

•  The user can replace the battery independently, and

•  Online update capability.

The SmallTalk Ultra is a pocket-sized Windows XP computer A hand holding a SmallTalk Ultrawith a 1GHZ processor, 512MB of RAM, and a 30GB hard drive. Clarence says they're jumping off the shelf, and we can see why.

We were also impressed by the new Excel support contained in Window-Eyes 5.5. We've not had a chance to put it through its paces yet, but we'll review it in time for our summer newsletter!

Our phone system has changed!illustration of a telephone

For existing customers, you might have noticed a change to our phone system recently. You can now get directly to the person you want to speak with without speaking to the operator first, just dial in the extension number as soon as the main number is answered. If you don't know the extension number, press the pound sign for a company directory where you may enter either the first four letters of your party's first or last name. You can still reach the operator any time by pressing “0”.Head shot of Kristyn Leigh
